Jobs in Information Technology
Common Misconception – Geeks and techies who sit behind computers all-day long
The area of IT has been very versatile since the last few decades. There was a time when anyone with an IT degree could command a six-figure salary and literally ‘walk’ into any job. But there are times when IT graduates were unable to find any jobs. However, this industry has stood the test of time and has become a necessity in most companies.
Not all about techs and computers
IT today has evolved into something more than just computers. In fact, it has branched out to mobile networks, e-commerce and even into sales and marketing. Having the basic technical skills have become a basic requirement and you will need to venture into more areas in order to be marketable.
To enter into the IT career path, you will need to have a basic degree in these fields. It could be software engineering, computer science, computer engineering or computer forensics but what you need after that is to gain more experience and exposure.
Although IT graduates do not command as much as before, the starting salary is still very competitive. As a fresh graduate, you can expect to earn about RM2,000.00 per month and there is always potential for off-site or outstation postings.
